Singapore Jewel Green Wall Green Module System
We are proud to play a part in the latest addition to Singapore’s list of attractions – Jewel. The well- designed mall in the airport exudes a Jurassic Park element with the main waterfall surrounded by elevated planters and flanked by green walkways. The green wall walkways are made up of 32000 pots using our GWS Green Module System. The 800m2 green walls blend seamlessly into the theme of Jewel, complementing the trees and shrubs and make for a great photo spot as well.
Carefully designed with sustainability at its core, both green walls were installed in a span of 2 months with our team working throughout the night. GWS Living Art knowledge of plants and experience in plant biodiversity plays a part in the painstaking plant selection process for this high key project. A total of 8 species was chosen. These include the Anthurium Dwarf Species- a special anthurium plant that grows to a limited size and has bright red flowers. This accent plant is clearly and classily spotted on the green wall and acts as a speck of bright colour on the green wall. Filler plants such as philodendron scandens and Philo Velvet red is used to create variation and chosen due to its easy maintenance regime. We imported phloebodium aureum bluestar from Europe as Jewel – the heart of the airport, aims to have plants from all over the world just as Singapore welcomes visitors globally daily. As its name implies, the European fern turns silvery blue in air-conditioned environment, adding colour and depth to our green wall. Try to spot it when you next visit!
Apart from the natural sunlight streaming in, these carefully selected plants need a certain spectrum of light to grow well. GWS Living Art has the expertise to install special grow lights tailored from Ushio to well equip our green wall plants. We aim to create a sustainable green wall that adds more than just visual benefits to the public. Green walls improve the air quality and act as a natural magnet to man. It has been proven scientifically that green spaces attract humans and improves our mood.
A well-designed green wall also takes maintenance into practical consideration. Aside from the right choice of plants, the GWS Green Module System uses proprietary manufactured pots that has a hook and lock system. This allows for easy installation and removal. Being a key feature, we need to ensure the green walls are easily accessible for efficient and practical regular maintenance given that maintenance time can be short and irregular.
We are once again humbled to have contributed to Jewel after being a part of Terminal 4, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Thank you for the opportunity and do remember to tag us on @gwsgreenaffair with your Jewel Green Wall pictures!
